Ashanti Gold could step up preparations for the 2016 Caf Champions League and the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League with an international four-team tournament in Tanzania in January.

The Miners, Ghana’s sole representatives in the premier continental club competition, have been recommended to attend the four-club tourney ahead of the new season.

“Hans Van Der Pluijm recommended us to his Tanzanian club, with whom he won the league, for an invitation to the four-club tournament,” AshGold’s public relations officer Kofi Yawson was quoted as saying by AllSports.

Der Pluijm is currently in charge of Young Africans SC, organisers of the competition.

“It would be among clubs that won their respective leagues,” Yawson said.

“The chairman of the club [Young Africans] was in Ghana for a TMS [Transfer Matching System] lecture and he had advanced talks with [Ashgold chief executive officer] Kudjoe Fianoo on the four-club tournament which comes off in January 2015 in Tanzania.”

The Obuasi-based side, led by coach Bashir Hayford, lifted the 2014-15 league title in September – the club’s first topflight silverware in 19 years and fourth title in history.
