Ashanti Gold want to host night games

Premier League side Ashanti Gold is set to seek permission from the Premier League Board (PLB) to play some of their home games under floodlights at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium, footy-Ghana.com can confirm.

Officials of the miners have, for some time now, been brainstorming on how to increase their revenue level at the gates during league games.

The club’s spokesperson Kofi Yawson, in an interview with Footy-ghana.com, revealed the club’s frustration at the extremely low patronage so far this season especially during mid-week home fixtures.

“Management led by Mr. Cudjoe Fianoo recently resolved that we test the floodlighting system of the stadium to which we identified were in quite good condition and able to illuminate the entire stadium field and its surroundings.

“This gives us the option to be able to host games at night so we recently managed to secure the national U-20 female team to play a test match under our floodlights as they prepared to travel to face Equatorial Guinea. Though a few of the lights are not functional, a greater percentage is working at an acceptable level. Management is on the verge of engaging an expert to cost the faulty bulbs so we could fix them to shine at full fledge,” AshantiGold’s spokesperson explained.

“We believe our request will be granted as being able to have some of our home games sanctioned for the evenings especially the mid-week ones will help most of our supporters who are not able to attend the games due to work will start trooping in during the night games,” he added.

Ashanti Gold lies joint second on the league log on 27 points with Hearts of Oak but hold a head-to-head advantage over the Phobians as the 2nd round of the Ghana Premier League resumes next month.
