Ashantigold Spank Kade Hotspurs 5-1

AshantiGold humiliated Kade Hotspurs 5-1 in the 10th edition of the GT Premiership at the Len Clay Sports Stadium on Sunday 26th June 2005.

It was AshGold who found the opener in the 16th minute through Opoku Agyemang of Starlets fame after Osei Kuffour header was punched by the goalie of Hotspurs, Mustapha Bampoe for Opoku to tap in for the first goal.

AshGold did not relent in their efforts and mounted several attacks but the referee who performed below average whistled for offside any time the attackers of AshGold made a move to the disappointment of the fans.

Opoku Agyemang capitalized on a defensive blunder and powered a 40yarder shot that hit the cross bar to the relief of the visitors. Hotspurs sensing danger resorted to long balls and in-swingers but kudos to the defence of AshGold comprising Daniel Asamoah, Alfred Arthur, Tony Baffoe and Joe Hendricks who stood tall to all the dangerous situations.

In the 25th minute Shaibu Yakubu blasted a powerful bullet that beat Mustapha Bampoe for the 2nd goal after receiving a perfect pass from Matthew Attiogbe. Ofosu Amoah however replaced injured Shaibu Yakubu in the 29th minute whilst Gimbah Aziz took over from Ackumey Kennedy.

Kuffour increased the tally in the 35th minute when Nasir Lamine and Ofosu Amoah had beautifully set the ball for Kuffour to tap in the 3rd goal in favour of AshGold.

A scary moment was witnessed in the 50th minute when Joe Hendricks was fouled for handling the ball close to the 18yard box but the kick by James Amarquaye was blocked by the defenders of AshGold to the relief of the soccer miners. The referee awarded a doubtful penalty to the visitors in the 58th minute after Alfred Arthur had cleverly disposed the ball from Henry Brenya for Amui Quaye to place the ball at the wrong side of Fatau Dauda.

On several occasions Osei Kuffour and Opoku Agyemang who were victims of offside rulings had to approach the referee but the referee would not take any of their pleas. Osei Kuffour took a pass from the Ofosu Amoah, surged forward and blasted a powerful shot that zoomed straight into the net for the 4th goal. Kwaku Sarpong and Thomas Duah replaced Nasir Lamine and Matthew Attiogbe respectively.

Enterprising Opoku Agyemang sealed the deal in the 84th minute when he capitalized on a defensive blunder and lobbed the ball over the goalie for the 5th and last goal in favour of AshGold.

AshGold line-up: Fatau Dauda, Daniel Asamoah, Alfred Arthur, Tony Baffoe, Joe Hendricks, Adamu Mohammed, Nasir Lamine/Kwaku Sarpong, Opoku Agyemang, Shaibu Yakubu/Ofosu Amoah, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour and Matthew Attiogbe/Thomas Duah.
