Coach C. K. Akunnor’s quest to steer Ashgold on a smooth winning streak in the opening rounds of the Ghana Premier League suffered a jolt on Saturday afternoon when they drew 1-1 with Bechem United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.

Emmanuel Owusu Boakye established why Ashgold were not going to have the match easy when he shot Bechem United into the lead after 19 minutes of action. However, Ashgold responded positively in the 34thh minute when Amos Addai with a superb shot inside the box cancelled Bechem United’s lead.

There were no goals in the second half as the two teams fortified their bases to ensure that, they share the spoils if they are not scoring. Roland Amozou of Ashantigold End Eric Owusu of Bechem United were booked by the referee for rough play.

Ashgold are on top of the league table with 10 points. They could be overtaken however, by WAFA, should the academy lads beat Elmina Sharks by a bigger margin in Saturday’s second game at the same venue. Bechem United have four points and will stay at 10th position until Sunday’s games are played.

Amos Addai emerged as the man of the match.
