Ashgold appoints new management team

Accra, Oct. 7, GNA - The Board of Directors of Obuasi Ashgold Football Club has appointed a five-member Interim Management Team (IMC) to handle the administration of the club following the resignation of Captain (rtd) Andy Sam, Chief Executive Officer of the Club. The IMC is to be headed by Mr Kudjo Fianoo, the Administrative Manager of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA).

Mr Fianoo who before his appointment was the Accra Representative of the Miners has vast years of experience in football administration in the country.

He is on record to have played a key role in the success of GHALCA in the organisation of the prestigious Top Four Tournament. Mr Fianoo has also served as the Welfare Officer of the senior National team, the Black Stars serving under such coaches as Bukhard Ziese and Guisepe Dossena and other local coaches. The GHALCA scribe is expected to bring his vast experience in football administration to salvage the sinking image of the three time Premier League champions.

Other members of the IMC include Messrs Kwesi Anane, Clement Donkor, Tony Wood and John Williams. Captain (rtd) Sam has been under constant pressure from the supporter's body of the club as a result of the unimpressive performance of the team in the premiership.

The Miners are currently placed eighth on the GT Premier League Table, which has just five matches to go. The current agitations in the club might be the possible reason behind the resignation of the retired Captain who served the club for three years.

Mr Sam in his resignation letter to the Board however said his action was personal and thanked the Board, the playing body, management and supporters for their cooperation during his tenure of office. In a related development, the Board has said it has also accepted the resignation of Hans Van Der Pluym, the Dutch head coach of the team whose contract is said to end this year. Coach Van Der Pluym has been replaced by Augustine Evans Adotey.
