Ashgold boycotts FA Cup against Kotoko

Ashanti Gold SC have finally boycotted the MTN FA cup quarter final clash against Asante Kotoko on Sunday at the Ohene Gyan Sports Stadium, Accra.

The Miners sent an appeal to the organizers of the competition against the change of venue from Kumasi to Accra due to the home ban imposed on the Porcupine Warriors by the GFA for misconduct.

They, therefore, stated that if Accra is the only venue the organizers can settle on, then they should bear the additional cost of transportation and other cost that have come up because the punishment is meant for Kotoko.

The Miners say the organizers allocated an amount of GHc1,200 for them to prepare for the game in Kumasi and now that the venue has been shifted to Accra, they will need GHc7000 for the trip.

However, Kofi Yawson, the Public Relations Officer of Ashgold says the FA cup Organising Committee tried to meet the Obuasi based club half way by promising them an amount of GHc2000, but they didn’t agree because the GFA failed to fulfill an amount promised them for a similar incident last season, so they have cancelled the trip.

“We have finally cancelled the trip to Accra for the FA Cup quarter final,” he told Allsports.com.

“Although the organizers promised to pay GHc2000 for the inconvenience the change of venue might cost us, we can’t rely on their promise.

“Because the GFA failed to fulfill an amount of GHc2000 they promised us last season for a change of venue from Kumasi to Takoradi due to a ban on Kumasi.

This means the top FA Cup quarter final liner between the two regional rivals, Ashgold and Kotoko, can’t come off.
