Ashgold fans unhappy with GFA

Accra, Oct. 18, GNA - The National Co-ordinating Committee (NCC) of the Ashantigold Supporters Union has resolved to advise the management of the club to cancel all hospitalities and facilities accorded to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) if it continuous to paint the Len Clay Sports Stadium as a notorious and an unsafe centre for visiting teams. The NCC said it has been made to believe that most of the actions, which are taken against Ashgold are deliberate in order to frustrate the team from progressing.

These were stated in a resolution signed by Mr Ernest Buanya-Mensah, Director and National Chairman of the NCC of the Ashantigold Supporters Union in a Press Release copied to the GNA Sports on Tuesday. The resolution is in reaction to the three-match ban and ten million cedis fine placed on the Club by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA after its 22nd Week League match against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.

Hearts went ahead to lodge a protest at the FA after the match with claims of manhandling from some macho men and thugs before the match. Mr Buanya-Mensah said they received with pain the ruling of the Disciplinary Committee because it failed to take into consideration the reports of the match commissioner.

According to the statement, the match commissioner's report stated clearly that Hearts were the worse offenders because they sprinkled some concoctions on the field.

It said the allegations that Ashgold hired some macho men at the gates was rather untrue since they were official security men working at the stadium, adding that the case was over bloated in order to find an excuse to declare Ashgold guilty and punish them severely.

The statement said the failure of the GFA to respond to their appeal after the ruling makes them believe that the actions against Ashgold are deliberately done to frustrate the club from progressing. It said in pursuance of the present verdicts, the Ashantigold management made an appeal on October 3 against the ruling of the GFA Disciplinary Committee but the GFA has not done anything about it up till now.
