Goalkeeper for Ashanti Gold, Frank Boateng has refuted allegations that his team was involved in a betting scandal that resulted in their 6-1 defeat to WAFA in the Ghana Premier League.
The Miners locked horns with the Academy Boys last Sunday in what was a Match Week 12 fixture of the ongoing season.
At the end of the match, WAFA handed Ashgold the biggest defeat in its history on the back of a totally dominated performance.
At the end of the big loss, there have been assertions that players of the club were involved in some betting and hence took money to allow the home team to cruise to an easy win.
In an interview with Kumasi FM, Ashgold goalkeeper Frank Boateng has rubbished all the allegations.
“We have heard of it but I’m completely alien in this betting thing. It’s painful to hear people attach such a shameful act to you. I have no intention of ever doing that because I know there are consequences in doing that as a player”, the 25-year-old goalie indicated.
He continued, “I don’t know any player who’s into this but if there’s any, he must cease doing that to avoid such disgrace to us.”
“We were shuttled after the game and couldn’t fathom how we could lose by that margin against WAFA.”
“The supporters must still believe in us and keep supporting us, it is during this time that we need them. They should forgive us, we are sorry.”
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of the club, Dr. Kwaku Frimpong has asked the BNI to investigate the matter.
