Ashgold threaten to boycott Sunday's game

Accra, Oct 20, GNA - Ashantigold say they would be compelled to boycott Sunday's premiership duel against Real Tamale United (RTU) at Berekum if the Appeal Committee's ruling scheduled for Friday, October 21 falls below their expectation.

The Committee will on Friday sit on the Club's appeal filed against a decision made about two weeks ago asking Ashgold to play their home match away in Berekum as part of their three home match ban. Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo, Chairman of the Ashgold Interim Management Committee (IMC) told the GNA Sports that " RTU can be assured of the maximum points without a fight if we feel cheated by tomorrow's decision".

Ashgold are contesting that the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) handed them a raw deal in its ruling by banning them from playing three games at their home grounds. The Club said it believes the Committee's failure to decide on their appeal filed over a fortnight ago was a calculated attempt to deny them justice in the face of the "unfair ruling" handed them. Ashgold was banned and fined 10 million cedis after the Committee declared them guilty of various offences committed during a league game with defending champions, Accra Hearts of Oak about a month ago. The Club according to Mr. Fianoo was dismayed on why it took the Committee almost 'eternity' to convene to decide on their appeal though the league was on a long recess.

Explaining why the club is peeved by the initial decision that compels them to honour their Sunday's match with RTU at the Berekum Golden City Park, the Chairman said the committee's judgment contravenes the Match Commissioner and the referee's reports that was presented before it.

"Both officials acknowledge pockets of incidents during the game. But to descend this heavily on us when both are partly to blame is unacceptable to us.

"How could the committee have overlooked the match commissioner's report which tagged Hearts as the worse offenders in the game only for them to ban the less culprit this much". Ashgold would be asking for a review if tomorrow's verdict does not meet their expectation, he added.

The club insists that by boycotting Sunday's game remains their obvious way of demanding that teams are offered a level playing field in everything.
