Information reaching sportscrusader.com indicates that the yellow and blacks will be forced to play Obuasi based Division One side, Red Lions FC should New Edubiase refuse to appear for Sunday afternoon’s ceremonial game to commemorate the Bona Annual Festival.
Players of the Bekwai based club boycotted Saturday afternoon’s shake-up ahead of the game in Obuasi citing unpaid salaries and bonuses as their reason; threatening to further boycott the game as scheduled.
When sportscrusader.com spoke to the National Chapters Chairman of the AshantiGold Supporters front, Mr. Oti Akenten, he confirmed the news, but indicated that they are still ironing out things to ensure New Edubiase plays this afternoon. He, however hinted that Red Lions may replace New Edubiase if the latter maintains their position.
“I only had a call this morning that the players had boycotted their training yesterday and that they will not be playing. We have spoken to their management but they claim all is well. However, in order not to bring about any disappointment, we have made arrangements with Red Lions FC, a division one club here in Obuasi to play with. We can’t disappoint our chief,” Oti Akenten said.
The game marks the commencement of the one-week celebration of the Bona Festival by the Adansihene Nana Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II.
