Asiedu wins Gold Fields Tennis Club tourney

Jude Asiedu proved his class as he won the 7th edition of the 2017 Gold Fields Club Tennis Tournment title after defeating two-time Champion Eric Okyere last Saturday at the Tarkwa Tennis Club House.

The club competition was opened to members of varying skills levels, categories included men's and women's singles, doubles and veterans.

Asiedu won the title after defeating his opponent 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in 2 hours and 40 minutes to take home the glittering trophy and other mouth watering prizes at the Championship which was sponsored by Cummmis Ghana Limited.

“To win this final against one of the best players in the Club is something which is really fantastic for me. I played a great game today. I capitalized on the chances I had in the first and final sets and even though Eric responded well, I was much focused and I think I played a great match,” said Jude.

In the first set, Jude had his first break going up 2-1. Eric broke back to level but then Jude quickly regained the advantage with another break to move ahead 5-4 then held serve to take the opening set from Eric to win 6-4.

Second set: Eric bounced back in the second set with a break to go up 5-4 and won the set 6-4.

The final set saw Jude uplifting his game to lead 5-1 but lost concentration for Eric to close the gap to 5-3 but Jude came back strong finishing it with his serve to win 6-3.

In the ladies singles event, 3-time champion Eunice Mintah won with a 6-1,6-0 victory over Ruby Sanoah.

Also in the ladies doubles, Eunice Mintah maintained her fine form and partnered Hillary Dzakpasu to oust Ruby Sanoah and national Under-12 Champion Tracy Ampah 6-1,6-2.

In the mixed doubles Eric Okyere and Linda defeated Ebenezer Conduah & Irene Ateng 6-0,6-1.

The Men's doubles was won by Ebenezer Conduah and Eric Okyere 6-1,6-2 against Isaac Williams Arthur/ Bartels Boham

Michael Bonsu won the veterans category after overcoming Gideon Asakpo 6-2,6-1.
In the consolation event : Kweku Wofa Ntarmah won with a 6-1,7-6(7) against Alex Aboagye Akari.

The last game was also won by Kofi Etrew Arhin with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Charles Van-Dyck.

Speaking to tennisgh.com, representative from Cummins Ghana limited, Mr. Alfred Otoo said the company will continue to support the development of tennis in the country.

Godfred Avane, on behalf of the General Manager of the Tarkwa Gold Fields, Mr. Stephen Osei Bempah, said their club was most active in the mines sector and encouraged members to keep up the good works. He also thanked Cummins Ghana limited for making the tournament a success.
