Athletic Bilbao legend Julen Guerrero has expressed his desire for Spanish-born Ghanaian winger Nico Williams to stay at the club, despite growing interest from other teams during this transfer market.
Williams, who has been impressing both at the club level and with the Spanish national team at the 2024 Euros in Germany, has caught the eye of several top clubs, including Barcelona.
Guerrero, speaking at a recent presentation, voiced his hope for Williams to continue his footballing journey in Bilbao. He believes that staying with Athletic Bilbao would be beneficial for the young winger's development and growth.
"I want him to stay at Athletic," Guerrero said. "I hope they have the best possible squad and that they always fight for great challenges. This year they won the cup and have entered Europe; these are undoubtedly ideal conditions for him and his football to continue developing in Bilbao."
Despite his personal wishes, Guerrero acknowledged that the final decision rests with Williams. He emphasized that whatever Williams decides must be respected, as it will depend on his personal aspirations and the opportunities presented to him.
"It's his decision," Guerrero added. "He will decide based on whoever calls him and whatever money they offer him; everything will depend on his wishes, and whatever he decides must be completely respected. I hope he decides to stay at Athletic, progressing, seeking challenges, and fulfilling dreams."
As the transfer window remains open, the future of Nico Williams at Athletic Bilbao hangs in the balance.
