Atsu outstanding in Vitesse Arnhem defeat

Ghana winger Christian Atsu was the standout player at the GelreDome when Vitesse Arnhem suffered a 2-1 home loss to giants PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie on Saturday.

The Chelsea loanee, 22, was by country miles the best player on the pitch but his impact could not help Vitesse complete a double over PSV as they emerged victorious and swap places to go second on the section.

Prior to the game, PSV’s half-Ghanaian winger, Memphis Depay had fired a warning to Atsu and his teammates and he kept to his words by scoring the match-winner on the 29th minute mark.

With all three goals in the tie produced in the first stanza, the second half became an exercise for establishment of superiority in terms of talent quality and exhibition of skills though for Vitesse, the added intention was to equalise, it was the former FC Porto winger who took the game to the visitors.

Though he was unable to find the net after having a hand in Zakaria Labyad’s 18th minute leveller, the Black Stars winger wowed many with his dazzling displays.

With Depay, he was presented with an inviting penalty kick in the 28th minute but he missed from his first attempt before managing to direct the ball home for his 9th goal of the campaign and his personal double over Vitesse this term.

PSV get their revenge in a small quota with respect to the disgraceful 6-2 defeat suffered in the reverse fixture at the Philips Stadion last December.
