Atsu set to return to Chelsea

English side Chelsea are set to recall their Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu from his loan spell at Everton because of the lack of playing time with the Toffees.

This means Atsu looks to have played his last loan game for Everton after staying with the club at the start of the season.

Arts is back at Chelsea for treatment of a hamstring injury, but the Blues feel that he has not played enough games at Goodison.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez beat off competition from a number of clubs – including Sunderland, Newcastle and West Ham – to land the pacey wide man in August.

Chelsea wanted the 22-year-old playing regularly this season in order to return to the club with a chance of challenging for a first-team place next year.

But he has featured just nine times with only one Premier League start.

The west Londoners will now decide whether to keep him at Stamford Bridge for the second half of the season or whether he goes out on loan again – though Atsu’s next move will be to join up with Avram Grant’s Ghana in January for the Africa Cup of Nations.
