Former Black Stars midfielder Godwin Attram has defended the Youth and Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye insisting that the Ghana Premier League is not attractive.

The Minister in an interview with Accra based Asempa FM last week said that the poor nature of the competition has led to an inability to gain corporate sponsorship. Mr Vanderpuye’s comments were not taken lightly by the Professional League Board and the FA, who hit back calling it untrue. Godwin Attram however agrees with the country’s sports Minister in thinking the league is unattractive.

Speaking to Sports Xtra, Attram said, “Our league is really down if one has to speak the truth. The Minister said that last week the league is unattractive and you had people from the FA coming out to speak against it.

“There are a lot of issues confronting our league which I think are not being handled well. Issues with poor officiating, bribery among others. A player is demoralized even before travelling for a game because he fears officiating will go against his team. So I really think our league is unattractive.”

He however urges the Sports Ministry and the Ghana Football Association to smoke the peace pipe, in other to improve upon the local game.
“The quarrel and the misunderstanding right now will not help any situation. It must stop. We need to unite to build our football. Facilities have to be improved in our game because it is the only way our game can meet the standard around the world.” He added.

Attram is now the head coach of Accra Great Olympics playing in the GN Division One league.
