Legendary Ghanaian footballer Augustine Arhinful has admonished footballers to remain disciplined if they want to survive in the game for long.

According to him, one ought to be disciplined in terms of respecting time, obeying instructions from coaches, and showing regard towards colleagues.

He also pointed out that it is essential for players to be cautious about their diet and eat good foods that will help them avoid injuries, as prescribed by physiotherapists and other medics on the team.

Speaking in an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Arhinful advised footballers to avoid using juju and instead keep praying to God. He also stated that social media is not allowing players to get enough rest for games, which is concerning.

“If you have decided to make football your profession, you have to stay focused. Because it is a full-time job until you decide to retire. So firstly, you have to respect time, which I am now accustomed to. Secondly, you have to be disciplined. It’s not just about greeting others but also includes respecting the coach and colleagues. There are a lot of things you shouldn’t eat.

“Most footballers suffer from muscle injuries because they don’t drink enough water, don’t eat good food, and have inadequate rest. With social media these days, it’s even worse. I would say coaches should confiscate players’ phones the night before a match to avoid distraction. Also, make sure to pray and not rely on juju,” he said in Twi.
