Ghana coach Avram Grant has noted that one major problem facing the national team is the lack of strikers.
Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan in the last decade has been the main man upfront for Ghana in all competitions.
Gyan’s presence always on the pitch gives every fan something to cheer about. The Shangai SIPG star has not been consistent for both club and country following his reoccurring injuries.
In Gyan’s absence, deputy skipper Andre Ayew has been playing in a more attacking role especially in the team’s Afcon qualifier against Mauritius, which Ghana won 2-0.
When Grant was asked why he used Andre Ayew as a striker in that game, he noted that “Andre played as a striker at Swansea, and he scored in almost every game, and he played a similar position against Mauritius.”
“The truth is that Ghana lacks strikers because there are many midfield players. When Warris and Gyan are not playing, we lack opportunities but in all Dede playing in such position and getting a goal I am happy with that,” he added.
