Awal hails Maritzburg capture of Pantsil

Ghana international defender Awal Mohammed has hailed Maritzburg United’s signing of former Ghana defender John Pantsil.

Pantsil, 33, joined the Team of Choice as a free agent after completing his one-year-contract with South African second-tier side Santos. And, Awal who is into his third season at the Harry Gwala Stadium is delighted with the arriving of his former Ghana team-mate.

“It is a very good decision for this club and for some of the young players. He (Paintsil) has a lot of experience and I am delighted he has joined me at club level,” Awal told Football411?s Ghana correspondent Russel Wiafe.

“I used to watch him during his playing days in England and for Ghana, so for a player like Paintsil to join Maritzburg, it is a sign of good things to come.” Pantsil’s long spanning career has seen him play in Israel and England with spells with West Ham United, Fulham and Leicester City.
