Awartey, Sharif win Azumah Nelson educational scholarships

Masters Justice Awartey and Yakubu Mohammed Sharif of Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical and Business Senior High School, Tamale became the recipient of the Azumah Nelson one-year educational scholarship respectively this week.

The iconic Ghanaian boxer took his maiden edition of ‘Time with the Professor’ to the Brong Ahafo region and Northern region on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The three-time WBC Super featherweight champion of the world resumed his tour in the Brong Ahafo regional capital of Sunyani on Tuesday where he interacted and shared life touching experiences with over 100 students at the Sunyani Senior High.

In a charged atmosphere, Professor Azumah Nelson touched the lives of hundreds of students and teachers as he chronicled his journey to stardom, motivating the students to imbibe discipline, dedication and commitment in their chosen endeavours.

The one-day exciting event was interspersed with Choreography as the students danced and chanted to the admiration of the boxing hall of famer.

At the end of a life-changing career counseling exercise, final year science student of Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical master Justice Awartey stood above her peers with an individual brilliant display to clinch a year educational scholarship.

The story was no different in Tamale on Wednesday as hundreds gathered at the Tamale Senior High (Tamasco) auditorium to catch a glimpse and listen to the motivational speech from the revered Ghanaian boxer.

The day belonged to final year Home Economics student Yakubu Mohammed Sharif, who displayed intelligence among his competitors to bag the award after a riveting display of knowledge and wit.

Azumah had embarked on a tour of four regions prior to the break after visiting the Eastern, Ashanti, Greater Accra and Central regions where he handed out similar scholarships to four deserving students.

Azumah Nelson rose from obscurity to international fame as a result of determination, focus, character, discipline and mental fortitude amongst other traits and these and more are what he intends to share with the young generation.

He will subsequently visit the Volta, Western, Upper East and Upper West regions in the coming days.
