Ayew: We are disappointed with Germany draw

Ghana midfielder Andre 'Dede' Ayew is feeling disappointed after the Black Stars shared the spoils with Germany in a 2-2 draw game at the World Cup.

The Black Stars needed a win badly to firmly stand any chance of qualifying to the Round of 16 and will now have to hope for Portugal to beat USA in today’s Group G encounter.

“We are disappointed. We showed good things, that we can live with a big team. I said against the USA that we lost because of one error and that they are not above our level. I think we are disappointed because of the manner we have. But then, to concede from a set piece at this level is unpardonable,” the 2009 Under-20 World Cup winner said.

He added: “The Germans had a bit of luck this evening. On the first goal, Gotze headed the ball badly against his knee and then it went in. Then the Klose goal was scored with a flick on. The big teams often get such breaks against teams like us. Today, we are disappointed, but we are still in the running.”

Ayew is expecting positive results in the Portugal-USA game, adding that Ghana will beat Portugal to qualify from the group.

“We’ll watch the match tomorrow and we’re relaxed. We’re still there. In five days, I’m very confident we’ll finish the group well and beat the Portuguese. Like I said, I’ve got confidence in the team. We have much desire and determination. Today we have shown a good face, even if we have not won. We will not look at the negatives but instead the positives. I think we have tonight to recuperate, and tomorrow we’ll watch the USA – Portugal match.”

Ghana play Portugal on June 26 in the final Group G games.
