Ayew delighted with Marseille return

Ghana forward Andre Ayew is delighted to have made his return to first team action or Olympique Marseille after three months out with injury. The 24-year-old came on to play the last 17 minutes of Marseille’s 3-0 win over Bastia on Saturday. Ayew has been out for the past three months after suffering a knee injury while on international duty for the Black Stars in the second leg World Cup playoff against Egypt in November.

The influential son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele’s return is ahead of schedule and in time to get him prepared for to help the Black Stars at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

And though not back to his best, the Ghana international is thankful for the medical staff for his expedited return to action.

“It’s nice to find land especially with the victory at the end,” he said after the win over Bastia.

“We posted a great state of mind, good technical qualities. Now we must continue on this path.

“Physically, I’m not at the top but it will get better gradually.

“I do not want to skip steps. I want to thank all the staff who helped me regain the strength to return so quickly.”

Ayew is expected to play a part in Marseilles’ away game on Saturday at Saint Etienne.
