English sides of Liverpool, Newcastle and QPR hopes of signing Ghana star winger is alive after the Marseille winger denied that he has signed a contract extension with the French giants.
This means the three Premier League clubs are still in with a chance of signing the player when the transfer window opens next month.
French newspaper L’Equipe reported on Monday that Ayew has agreed to sign an extension with Marseille by signing a one-year extension to his expiring contract.
But the Ghana international insists that he has not signed a contract extension with the French giants, sparking fresh hopes from the English sides seeking his signature.
“I have not signed any new contract with Marseille. My contract expires in June next year. The reports you read from the French media is from last year not recent at all,” Ayew told GHANAsoccernet.com exclusively on Wednesday.
Marseille must sell him or extend his contract by next month or risk losing the player for free as his contract with the French club expires
The star, who turned 25 on Wednesday has been the subject of much transfer speculation over the past few months and has been linked to a host of top-flight sides, including both Liverpool, QPR and Newcastle.
However a transfer to either club now appeared to be off the table when the reports emerged that Ayew has added a year to his deal with l’OM.
Newcastle and Liverpool were not the only clubs linked with a move for the highly-rated talent, who had also attracted interest from both Inter Milan and Napoli in Serie A.
The son of Abedi Pele – the Marseille legend who was part of Marseille’s 1993 European Cup winning team and three-time African Footballer of the Year,– Ayew came through the youth ranks at the club.
Something approaching hot transfer property over the summer, Ayew was one of the few Ghana players to emerge from the World Cup with credit, following a campaign that saw the Black Stars exit the tournament at the group phase.
Ayew netted against both the United States and Germany to boost his value and increase the volume of Premier League links, but he looks likely to remain off limits.
