Ayew eyes Premier League move

Marseille forward Andre Ayew has told Sky Sports that while he has offers from all over Europe, a move to the Premier League would be an “honour”.

The 25-year-old Ghana international is a free agent in the summer, and has been heavily linked with a host of English clubs including Swansea, Newcastle, Arsenal and Everton.

Swansea have even reportedly offered the pacey winger a lucrative deal to try prise him away from the Stade Velodrome, but nothing has been agreed as yet.

Ayew has spent his entire professional career with Marseille, and while he would leave with a heavy heart, he says England would be his destination of choice.

“I have had a lot of different offers from different countries, but I will have to discuss with Marseille,” Ayew told Sky Sports.

“I will make a decision soon, and look at the offers that are coming in and decide what is best for my future.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world today, and it would be an honour play there.

“I talk to a lot with my friends who have played there. Samuel Eto’o, Alex Song, Samir Nasri, Joey Barton have all given me great advice about the Premier League.

“I am still in contract with Marseille, so I cannot give names of clubs, but there has been contact.”

Ayew almost crossed the channel in January when he held talks with Harry Redknapp about a proposed move to QPR.

Rangers owner Tony Fernandes reportedly vetoed the move, which may have contributed Redknapp’s shock departure the day after Transfer Deadline Day.

“It is true there were talks (with QPR),” Ayew said.

“But at the time it was not the right move for me and Marseille, which is important too.

“Nothing could be agreed so we moved on.”

Ayew has 62 international caps and almost 200 appearances for Marseille to his name and with plenty of Champions League game time under his belt, the likes of Serie A giants Roma, as well as top level English clubs, have been mentioned as potential suitors.

While Ayew was adamant the right deal that is of paramount importance, one particular club holds a special place in his heart.

“All my life I have been a Liverpool fan,” Ayew added.

"When I was young I was watching the Liverpool games.

“Steven Gerrard is my favourite player. It will not be easy to see him leave in the summer, but we all need a new challenge.”
