Ghana striker Jordan Ayew has expressed his delight at scoring against DR Congo in their 2-1 win to secure a sixth successive Africa Cup of Nations semi-final berth on Sunday.

The Aston Villa star had gone seven games without scoring for the Black Stars prior to the fixture, but powered his side into the lead in the 63rd minute, after latching onto a Mubarak Wakaso pass before going past two defenders to slot in his effort.

Ayew broke down in tears while celebrating and was congratulated by his teammates. However, his effort lasted only five minutes after Paul-Jose M'Poku got DR Congo the equaliser but Andre Ayew sealed the victory for Ghana twelve minutes from time after Christian Atsu was brought down in the box.

“It was an important win for the players, the coach, the Football Association and most importantly the people of Ghana, “Ayew said.

“I was very happy to score that goal after several failed attempts and I felt emotional after scoring that was why. I thank everyone for the support and hope to give out my best in the subsequent games,” he added.

Ghana will lock horns with Cameroon in the semi-finals on Thursday, a repeat of the 2008 Afcon.

Jordan is expected to feature against the Indomitable Lions since captain and all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan continues his recovery from a thigh injury which saw him miss the quarterfinals.
