Ayittey "Dada" Powers to fight in London

Accra, May 26, GNA - Ayittey Powers, the national and West African super welterweight boxing champion leaves Accra on Friday for London ahead of a Commonwealth title fight against Briton, Richard Williams on Saturday, June 5.

Speaking to the GNA Sports on Monday, the Ghanaian slugger said though he had lost to Williams in an earlier fight, he has prepared sufficiently to reverse the decision.

He said the fight would take place at York Hall and he had vowed to halt the spate of losses that has characterised fights involving Ghanaian boxers in British rings lately.

Powers said he his future depended on the fight against Williams as he stands a chance of meeting Eric Jones in Nevada for the International Boxing Federation title if he won the London fight.

He said in order to show that he was a more serious and dedicated boxer than he used to be, he has decided to add "Dada" to his name to give him a new profile and identity.

"In the name of Jesus, I shall win in London, then beat Jones in Nevada and return home with the titles and I want all my fans to pray for me.

"Because of the way they are robbing Ghanaian boxers in British rings, I shall carry my own judge into the fight and win by knockout to leave out any doubts," Powers concluded.

Several Ghanaian boxers have lost their fight in British rings recently with some of them complaining they had been robbed. Bantamweight, Anyetei Laryea, featherweight Malik Jabir and super featherweight Kpakpo Allotey are some of the unsuccessful Ghanaian pugilists in British lately.
