The son of Ghana’s 3-time world champion, Dalvin Azumah Nelson Junior, staged a dramatic return to the ring as he clinched a split decision victory over fellow boxer Philip Quansah in their lightweight amateur fight at the Bukom Boxing Arena on May 4, 2024.
Quansah gave Dalvin a tough duel with his father, Azumah Nelson, observing the bout keenly.
In three rounds, Dalvin managed to box his way to a 2-1 victory, much to the delight of the fans and his father.
The fight was Dalvin's first fight since 2017 when he took on Prosper Dzidzor at the same location.
Weeks before his bout on May 4, his dad, Azumah Nelson, had announced that his son had quit boxing to pursue other interests after realising the sport was not for him.
“He realised that boxing is not for kids from well-to-do homes. It’s a sport for hustlers and people from not-too-good backgrounds. I’m not worried that he quit the sport because I wasn’t the one receiving the blows. He was the one receiving it and realized he could not take the blows,” Azumah Nelson said on Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.
With this win, Dalvin is set to revamp his career as he hopes to engage in more bouts to inch closer to winning a title and follow in the footsteps of his father.
