Legendary Ghanaian boxer Azumah Nelson turns 60 today, 19th July, 2018.

Born in Mamprobi, a suburb of Accra, Azumah Nelson said no to fate and with humility and determination became Africa’s greatest pugilist.

GhanaWeb TV caught up with the ‘boxing professor’ ahead of his birthday to discuss a lot issues. The interview which formed part of activities to celebrate the legend saw him open up about his relationship with former President Rawlings.

The boxing hall of fame also shared his story of ‘rags to riches’ which was made possible by his humility and strong belief in God.

In what can best be described as a sterling career, Azumah Nelson fought 47 times but his bout against Argentine Azabache Martinez is his pick out of the bunch. He describes him as a disciplined boxer and a tough puncher.

He always painfully shares the sad story of how his first wife Beatrice Tandoh died and how that nearly made him give up on his career.

Azumah also revealed the motive behind his famous Limousine which became the talk of the town in the late 1990s.

Azumah will be honoured by the WBC for his achievements on July 22nd at Bukom Boxing Arena where a night of great boxing will be served.
