The Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG) has announced plans to begin a nationwide coaching and officiating course from Friday, June 21.
The exercise is to train more coaches and technical officials as part of its Badminton in Schools Programme.
The training programme is dubbed “Badminton in Schools National Coaching and Officiating Course” is a first level of coaching course.
According to BAG, the training programme is targeted at Physical Education (PE) teachers and technical officiating for anyone interested in developing a coaching and technical officiating career in badminton.
Mr. Evans Yeboah, in an interview with the GNA Sports said the training was under the Shuttle Time programme, which was aimed at developing the sport at the grassroot level.
“Shuttle Time is a comprehensive badminton Schools programme for primary and secondary schools in Ghana. Ghana Badminton Shuttle Time is the Badminton World Federation’s Schools/Clubs Badminton Programme.
This programme aims to make badminton one of the world’s most popular sports in schools and clubs,” he said.
“Delivering Shuttle Time Teacher/Coach workshops is about providing teachers, parents and club volunteers with the opportunity through the delivery of workshops and the implementation of the BWF Shuttle Time resources to become confident and capable delivers of badminton in a school near you.”
“So everyone should take advantage to register and take part in this grassroot badminton development programme in schools and communities. Get the chance to take part in an African Officiating Course to be held here in Ghana during the global tournament,” he added.
The training programme would begin from June 21 to June 22, simultaneously in the following regions; Greater Accra (Achimota), Eastern (Oyoko SHS), Volta (Mawuli SHS), Central (St Augustine College) and Western (GPHA Takoradi Sports Facility).
It would continue from June 28 to June 29 in; Ashanti (Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI)), Brong Ahafo (Sunyani SHS), Northern (Cultural Centre), Upper West (WA School for the Deaf) and Upper East (Bolgatanga SHS).
The Association said interested participants could register for GHC 199 on their website (ghanabadminton.org/badmintoncourse). According to BAG, the registration fee includes: T-shirt, full resources materials (soft/hard copies), International Certificate and 2 full board meals.
