The Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch has been left in a terrible state after hosting a five-day church event.

In a video sighted by GhanaWeb, the Baba Yara pitch has lost its lush green look, with the grass looking dead and brown.

The National Sports Authority (NSA), who manages sporting facilities in the country, rented out the stadium to the church without covering the pitch.

The religious event hosted at the stadium saw the stage being mounted on the pitch, along with hundreds of people sitting on the pitch for several hours.

As a result of the NSA's negligence in not protecting the pitch and exposing it to being trampled on by the congregants, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch has been destroyed.

The damaged pitch could have serious implications for Ghana's chances of playing international matches in the country.

Over the years, Ghanaian football fans have been vocal about the deteriorating state of facilities under the care of the NSA, who prioritise revenue generation over maintenance.

Meanwhile, the NSA Ashanti Region has attempted to assure fans that measures are in place to restore the pitch promptly.

"We have a robust plan, a crack field, and a maintenance team to recover the pitch and restore the facility in general in record time throughout August. Stakeholders can rest assured," the NSA Ashanti Region stated in a post.
