Ghana international Abdul Rahman Baba has revealed that he is recovering fast from a toe injury sustained while playing for his club Augsburg against Werder Bremen and could make a surprise comeback on Saturday as they face SC Paderborn in the Bundesliga.
However, the former Asante Kotoko fullback warned he could be rested for their weekend’s fixture, insisting it would not have any effect on the Fuggerstadter’s performance.
“My absence may not affect Augsburg, who are a team and not an individual. We have good players who can do the job in my absence. However, I’m seriously working on my imminent return to the pitch. I’m hoping to play during the weekend although I’m yet to be passed fit,” Baba told Goal.
“Every team has its ups and downs. We have lost two consecutive games against Werder Bremen and Freiburg. Sometimes things go right and other times they don’t. I’m confident that we’ll come back very strong because we’re eyeing a place in Europe,” he said.
Baba can boast of six assists from open play in the ongoing campaign, attracting interest from a number of top sides in Europe.
The former Ghana U20 star was over the weekend voted among the best 500 football players on earth by World Soccer magazine.
“I feel greatly honoured to be on the list. It’d boost my morale as a young player. It’d also motivate me to work harder,” he said.
