Badminton Ghana gear up for African Championships

Ghana’s national Badminton team have started camping in preparation for the upcoming trip to Ethiopia for the African championships slated for the end of this month with a promise to achieve good results and win medals for the country at the competition.
Following a well publicized successful President’s national championship last month, eight males and four females are training everyday at the D.G. Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium till February 20 when they will be pruned down to four males and possibly up to four female players who will represent Ghana at the continental tournament.
According to Frank Shamo, head coach of the national team, Ghana’s chances of silverware at the championships have been boosted if the performances of the players during the camping so far is anything to go by.
“Everything is fine, meals and training are all nice and the matches between the players are very interesting and competitive. Morale is high and motivation is also at its peak which gives me hope,” Coach Shamo told AL SPORTS when we visited the team’s training on Wednesday.
He added: “Many of the players performed excellently during the President’s Cup and have been working hard to gain more improvement. I think we are doing well and the players who will be selected for Ghana will improve to produce results in Ethiopia.”
