Golden Boot winner in the Glo Premier League, Emmanuel Baffour has been nominated as the Premiership Player of the Year by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana.
The New Edubiase striker who finished the season with 21 goals will also be rewarded with the Top Scorer prize at the 2011 SWAG awards gala which seeks to reward sporting personalities for their remarkable contributions to Ghana sports for the year under review.
According to a SWAG statement on Thursday, "Baffour’s nomination follows his outstanding performance in the 2011/12 premier league, as well as his emergence as the highest goal scorer in the just-ended season with 21 goals."
Baffour will be among over 25 sports men and women who will be decorated on June 9 at the awards night which has two footballers competing for the flagship award, the prestigious 2011 Sports Personality of the Year prize.
Andre Ayew and Harrison Afful face competition from two-gold medal Paralympics athlete, Ajara Mohammed for the award.
Both Andre and Afful are again in the running for another award with the Footballer of the Year prize up for grabs. The duo would compete with Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyeman-Badu.
Ghana’s Under-23 team, the Black Meteors, who won Gold at the 2011 All Africa Games have been named as Team of the Year.
Coach of the Black Meteors, Akwasi Appiah will be decorated with the Coach of the Year award.
MTN FA Cup and Super Cup winners, FC Nania have been named Club of the Year.
