Barnes to watch MTN/FA Cup finals on Sunday

Accra, July 19, GNA – Former England International footballer, John Barnes is expected to be part of the dignitaries that will grace the finals of the MTN/FA Cup match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Nania FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, July 24.

Information gathered by the GNA Sports indicates that the organizers of the match are in touch with Primeval Consult to enable the soccer great attend the match as the Special Guest of Honour.

It forms part of efforts to boost attendance at the Stadium as many football fans will be seeking to catch a glimpse of the former England international.

Lawrence Opare Otoo, Chief Executive of Primeva Consult, organizers of the visit of Barnes to Ghana, confirmed that he was in talks with members of the Planning Committee of the MTN/FA Cup over the issue and was confident the former footballer will be part of the finals.

Barnes is expected to be part of the officials who will do the formal presentation of medals and trophies to the winner of the match after proceedings.

He will also organize a three-day football clinic for children between the ages of 10-16 at the El-Wak Stadium, Accra on July 25, 28 and 29.

Kotoko will be seeking to annex the trophy to enable them participate in the Confederation Cup competition, whilst Abedi Pele’s Nania FC will go into the history book as one of the few Division One clubs to have ever won the competition if they manage to carry the day.
