Mr Ebow Bartels, chairman of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) on Thursday inaugurated the Central Regional Table Tennis Association at Cape Coast, with a call on NGOs and philanthropists to contribute towards the development of the sport in the region.
The re-constituted association, is headed by Mr Isaac Bart-Addison, Mfantsiman district director of education.
Its re-constitution followed a request by the Regional Minister that all sports associations in the region be reorganized and active members selected towards the achievement of tangible results.
Mr Bartels also charged the association to regularly organize leagues and tournaments to keep players active. He on behalf of the GTTA, presented five packets of tennis bats and balls worth one million cedis to the association.
Mr Fred Aboagye, vice-chairman of the regional tennis association, expressed gratitude to the mother association and gave the assurance that the equipment would be used to help achieve the desired results. In a demonstration match between Courage Nanevie and Solomon Akonor, national Tennis stars, Nanevie defeated Akonor by three games to one.
