The 2016 National Women's League got off to a blistering start with Hasaacas Ladies announcing their readiness to defend their title after thrashing Lady Strikers by four goals to nil.

However, the women’s league has seen little financial support in four seasons.

Coach of Hasaacas Ladies Yusif Basigi, speaking to Class Sports, has appealed to affluent persons and organisations to support the women’s league.

“The women’s league needs financial support seriously. For a fourth year running, there has not been any serious financial assistance and club owners are managing affairs on their own. You can imagine how difficult it is, so, I will plead with Ghanaians, individuals, and corporate bodies to come to the aid of women’s football,” he said.

Touching on the game, he said it took the experience of his team to beat Lady Strikers, coached by the experienced Kuuku Dadzie.

“The game was very interesting. [Despite] beating them, they were not a bad side at all. They have experienced coach Kuuku Dadzie, he was on their bench and they have been training all this while, so, I knew I was going to face a very stiff opposition. Just that with the sort of experienced players that I have, I was able to beat them.”
