Bawku Keep Fit Club Inaugurated

Bawku (U/E) Sept.19, GNA - The President of the Ghana Olympics Committee (GOC), Mr. Benson Tongo Baba, has urged residents in the Bawku municipality to embrace sporting activities to promote social interactions that would remove the constant conflicts in the area. He said aside sports providing the health needs of the people, constant interactions would create a common platform for the people with diverse views to strategise in a peaceful way to develop the area. Mr. Baba, who made the appeal at the inauguration of the Bawku Keep Fit Club on Saturday at Bawku in the Upper East Region, added that sports was the only activity which had gone beyond ethnic, racial, political and religious persuasions.

He urged the youth to participate actively in the programmes of the club in order to develop their talents fully so they could be recognised by the sports authority to help the nation maintain its resurgence in the sporting arena.

Mr. Baba cautioned the youth against the use of drugs and unruly behaviour during sporting activities, adding that sports was meant to create friendships for the betterment of society. The Bawku Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Samuel N'lary, said building bridges of friendships to break down barriers through sporting activities was a sure way of moving the area towards total development. He said the club had come at the opportune time to help workers in the municipality to exercise to be fit for the daily schedule without having any health problems.

The chairman of the club, Mr. Al-Hassan Fuseini, said the club was set up to promote and sustaining peace and unity among all inhabitants of the town to regain their pride and dignity after years of violent and instability.
