The Vice President and Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has made a personal donation of $10,000 to Sekondi Hasaacas Ladies to boost their morale ahead of the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League in Ivory Coast this week.
Hasaacas Ladies qualified to represent Ghana in the competition after winning the 2023-2024 Ghana Women's Premier League.
An aide to Dr. Bawumia, Tamimu Issah, presented the money to the management of Hasaacas in Accra on Tuesday and conveyed the Vice President's best wishes to Hasaacas Ladies, who leave the country on Thursday for the tournament.
Dr. Bawumia's support has come as a timely boost to Hasaacas Ladies and also a major cushion to the management of the team due to the huge financial requirements for the tournament.
Receiving the donation, the Chief Executive Officer of Hasaacas Ladies, Nanabanyin Eyison, expressed the gratitude of the entire team to Dr. Bawumia for his surprise and continuous support to the team.
This is not the first time Dr. Bawumia has supported Hasaacas Ladies or women's football in the country.
When Hasaacas Ladies qualified for their maiden CAF Women's Champions League four years ago, Dr. Bawumia responded to their public appeal for help by supporting them financially for both the competition in Ivory Coast and the final tournament in Egypt.
Following that gesture, Dr. Bawumia has since been financially supporting every Ghanaian Women's Premier League champion representing Ghana at the CAF Women's Champions League every year.
Last year, he supported Ampem Darkoa Ladies, who were crowned champions in the league.
Dr. Bawumia has also, for the past three years, adopted the SWAG Female Footballer of the Year by giving winners of the award a cash prize.
Hasaacas Ladies will face Edo Queens, Burkina Faso's Omnisports Etincelle, and Niger's AS Garde National in their group.
