Farouk Aliu Mahama, son of late Former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has expressed confidence in Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to help make Real Tamale United (RTU) a formidable force in Ghana football again.

The Tamale-based club’s 33-year stay in the elite football division came to a close when they were relegated in the 2013 league season after failing to win a league game the whole season.

The late Aliu Mahama was the chairman of the club before his demise. His son Farouk Aliu Mahama, however, is sure Dr Bawumia can take over and change the fortunes of the club for the better.

Speaking to Class Sports, he said: "The legacy left by the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama will be continued by his [son], now Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamadou Bawumia.

"He will work towards the aspiration of the people of the Northern region in line with his mentor, the late Aliu Mahama and he will help in the rejuvenation of RTU and make the side a shining star in the North."

RTU meanwhile lie 6th in zone 1 of the 2016/17 GN Bank Division One league season.
