Kumasi, Aug 27, GNA - Visiting Bayelsa United Football club of Nigeria on Tuesday held Kumasi King Faisal to a goalless drawn game in an international friendly soccer match played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The match formed part of preparations being made by the two sides ahead of next season's Premier League in the two countries. This is the second time that the Nigerian Club has been able to hold a Ghanaian side to a drawn game after they drew 1-1 with Accra Hearts of Oak in another friendly at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra last week.
Bayelsa pushed more men forward and played an all attacking game in the first half with the intention of scoring to win the game but lack of precision and poor shooting upfront denied them of a goal as strikers Ebitimi Agogu, Ubale Manniu and Ameh Akiwaa squandered some glorious chances in the 15th, 17th and 28th minutes.
Faisal lifted up their game in the second half and nearly broke the deadlock in the 58th minute but Abedi Sarfo's header from an Abdul Samed Oppong's in swinger missed the post narrowly. The homesters also came close to scoring in the 83rd minute but Osman Bashiru shot feebly into the waiting hands of goalkeeper Sulley Mohammed after the striker had meandered his way through the Bayelsa defence in a solo effort.
