Upon the announcement of the Black Stars’ official squad for the September 8 clash with Kenya, a section of Ghanaians have expressed their opinions on the selection of players for the National Team by Coach Kwesi Appiah. Among many of these, is veteran football administrator Nana Fitz.
In an interview with Esther on Angel TV's sports show "On the Turf " over the weekend, Nana Fitz observed that the inconsistency of Kwesi Appiah in his coaching and selections is too much. According to him, Ghanaians are not getting Kwesi Appiah's plan, because he has withheld information from the public and failed to update Ghanaians on what his vision is.
"When a coach is appointed, he has power to do what he thinks is best for the team, and not wait for people to tell him what to do. Anytime Kwasi Appiah makes a selection, there is a backlash. The backlash is based on his selection, all because since he begun handling the affairs of Black Stars, he has been using different set of players for each match, what is this, you say you are building a team, and after a year, you still not consistent, what is happening? Kwasi Appiah should come out and tell the nation what he is doing, he needs to have the boldness to explain why he chose others and left out others, with this, there won't be any backlash, "Nana Fitz added.
There have also been concerns over the lack of consistency in Appiah’s call-ups, with every single list throwing up new faces or inexplicable absentees. He had promised to have a settled squad by midyear, but that, as it appears, was mere talk.
