Beijing ready to host sporting world

Beijing, Aug. 7, GNA - Beijing, the capital city of China and hosts of the 29th Olympic Games, is ready to receive the sporting world and treat it to a fiesta and so is the twin host, Quinhuangdao which would host one soccer match.

Unlike in some host cities where work on facilities continues till the eve of the opening ceremony, Beijing and Quihuangdao have been ready for some time and test runs have been carried out. The opening and closing ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, August 8 and Sunday, August 24 respectively.

There are a total of 302 gold medals at stake for Olympic champions, first runners-up will be consoled with 302 silver medals and second runners-up will get 302 bronze medals. Athletics and swimming are the most fertile fields with 47 and 44 gold medals respectively for Olympic champions.
Wrestling would dole out 18 gold medals, cycling and canoe/kayak would fetch 16 gold medals each while weightlifting and shooting will give out 15 gold medals each.
Judo, rowing, artistic gymnastics will give out 14 gold medals each.
Boxing and sailing would fetch 11 gold medals each while cycling would give out 10 gold medals.
Archery, lawn tennis and table tennis will each give out four gold medals. soccer, basketball, hockey, volleyball and water polo have two gold medals each at stake while baseball and softball have one gold medal each for the taking.
