Beijing, Aug. 10, GNA - Cutting-edge technology coupled with 5,000 years of Chinese history was on display at the opening of the Beijing Olympics Games on Friday.

Computer simulated-backgrounds with live performances blended in a manner that made Beijing Olympics to stand out as one of the best organised in the modern era.

The most breath-taking of the displays was the levitation of Xu Won, a Chinese, gold medalist in the 1984 Los Angeles Games. He ran the last lap to light the cauldron of the Olympic Flame. The over 100,000 spectators at "The Nest" Olympics stadium, were over-awed as the cables that lifted him up were not visible to them.

With a combination of cultural displays and modern opera

featuring world class Chinese artists and chrolographers, the

opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics has set very high

standards and thereby setting London a daunting task as it prepared

to host the 2012 Olympics. Indeed it was a tapestry of thousands of years of a cultural

heritage that had given birth to the gun powder and pushed the

world into a new era.
