Ex-Ghana goalkeeper Ben Owu has hailed the magnanimity of Asamoah Gyan, after the Black Stars skipper redeemed his pledge to the Black Queens on Saturday.

Gyan rewarded the All Africa Games gold medalist with a staggering $30,000 as he marked his 30th birthday at a colourful ceremony over the weekend.

The kind gesture has been hailed by many in the West African country as the Shanghai SIPG attacker continues to show love and compassion to all shades of society.

And Medeama goalkeepers’ trainer Ben Owu has been left utterly impressed by his gesture.

“I think he (Gyan) deserves all the plaudits for what he’s doing for this country,’ he said

‘Not many people will do what he’s doing now. We have several players but only a few will give back to society.

‘That was not his responsibility, but he has shown that he’s a true captain of the Black Stars and a unique character. I commend him and urge him to do more.’

The Black Stars captain is now one of the big earners in world football with his reported weekly wage at Shanghai SIPG running into over $300,000.

His magnanimity however knows no bounds as he has funded several humanitarian projects through his Asamoah Gyan Foundation.
