Accra, June 5, GNA - Premier League champions, Berekum Chelsea and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will vie for the 2011 edition of the SIC and Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) H.P. Nyemitei Cup match.
The two Clubs will engage in the first leg at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra, on Sunday, June 26, with the date of the second leg to be arranged later in July.
The Association settled on the two Clubs after a thorough assessment of their performance in the Glo Premiership,Chelsea became the second Club to break the long standing duo-poly tradition of Hearts and Kotoko in the premiership, by winning the League with three clear games ahead of its completion, whilst Kotoko, on the hand have exhibited an improved performance in the league after initial slacks.
A statement from the secretariat of the Association, said the two clubs agreed on this year's event after series of negotiations and are bent on competing competitively for the trophy.
It said the match, which forms part of activities towards the 36th Edition of SWAG Awards Night is aimed at raising funds for the organization of the event as well as for the two Clubs.
According to the statement, with the 2011 Edition of the SIC/SWAG H.P. Nyemitei Cup Match, the Association will also seek to improve upon previous events in terms of attendance and general organization with a lot of innovations.
Obuasi Ashgold won the last competition after beating Accra Hearts of Oak on penalties in the second leg game at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra last year.
