Berekum Chelsea blew the Ghana Premier League title race wide open following their 2-1 win over WAFA on match day 23 at the Golden City Park on Sunday.

WAFA’s usual possession game could not materialize at the blast of the referee Silverster Adjoku’s whistle due to the bumpy Berekum Golden City Park playing field as Chelsea nearly got the opener but Razak Abelora’s excellent goalkeeping kept the score line at 0-0.

But WAFA delivered a telling blow to the home side with just 4 minutes of play when a defensive blunder by the host gave young attacker Richard Danso the chance to tap in the ball from close distance.

Chelsea responded quickly after WAFA failed to clear their lines properly as deadly poacher Stephen Sarfo capitalized to power home the leveler in the 28th minute.

The Blues came back from recess looking charged as they piled pressure on the visitors but wasted the chances that came their way, with the culprit being striker Alfred Okai Quaye.

But the Blues got the winner with just 10 minutes to end proceedings after referee Adjoku awarded them a penalty, which was duly dispatched by Stephen Sarfo.

WAFA’s maintain their top spot with 43 points but with a game in hand ahead of second placed side Aduana Stars after match day 23.
