Bernard Mensah rode to Kayserispor’s rescue Sunday afternoon as the Ghanaian midfielder scored two minutes from time to beat compatriot Lumor Agbenyenu’s Goztepe 2-1 in a Turkish Super Lig match.
The match-day 22 home fixture saw Kayserispor take the lead on 14 minutes through a powerful headed goal from Tjaronn Chery.
In pursuit of an equalizer and more stability at the back, the Goztepe coach decided to sacrifice Ghanaian left-back Agbenyenu for the more experienced Berkan Emir after first half break.
And the visitors succeeded in their chase for the leveler in the 83rd minute when attacking midfielder Deniz Türüç‘s attempt to head a corner kick to safety rather turned into the back of his own net. 1-1.
Mensah, who was enjoying a great outing, then capped his day with a half volley inside the penalty area to give Kayserispor all three points at the Kadir Has Stadium.
Bernard Mensah’s match winner takes Kayserispor to 11th position with 28 points after 22 matches played. Another compatriot on Mensah’s side, Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan could not make the matchday squad.
