Black Queens slip to 51st in latest ranking

Ghana’s Black Queens have slipped to the 51st position in the world in the latest rankings released by the world soccer governing body, Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Friday.

The Queens dropped one place after losing a point to 1468 but maintained their position as the second best ranked team on the African continent.

The 8-0 aggregate victory by the Queens over Mali in the preliminary qualifier for the 2012 African Women’s Championship last February made no impact on their current status.

The latest ranking is nine places off the Queen’s best ever ranking of 42nd position attained in June 2008. It is also two places of their worst ever placement; 53rd position, which was achieved in July 2003.

According to the rankings gathered by GNA Sports in Accra on Friday, Nigeria maintained their position as the best ranked team on the continent on the 27th position globally with 1686 points.

Cameroon and South Africa, the continent’s representatives for the London 2012 Olympic Games are placed third and fourth respectively.

One-time African champions, Equatorial Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt complete the African top 10.

United States of America (USA) maintained their position as the world’s best ranked team with Germany, Japan, Brazil, Sweden, France, Canada, Korea DPR, England and Australia in the top 10.

The next rankings will be released in June 2012.**
