Black Satellites depart for WAFU U-20 championship in Togo

The national U-20 team, the Black Satellites have left Ghana for Togo for the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) U-20 championship.

The players and the technical team left Accra for neighbouring Togo on Tuesday evening for the competition which begins on Thursday.

The team is dominated by locally based players with Michael Baaidoo of FC Midjtyland in Denmark the only foreign-based player in camp.

Coach Jimmy Coblah's side has been drawn in group B of the competition with Nigeria, Niger, and Benin.

The former Inter Allies coach has revealed the tournament will be a justify your inclusion for most of the local players ahead of the Africa Youth Championship next year.

“We believe the WAFU isn’t about the cup but its preparation," he told the press. "We have spent some time with the team during the qualifiers where we invited some European players. And now they are gone,” he added.

“So we have decided to look at the local players around and understudy them from now to the tournament. And we will know those who can make the team after the WAFU for AFCON”, Jimmy added.

The tournament begins on 6th of December and will end on 16th of the same month.
