Former Ghana goalie Abukari Damba has commended the Black Stars B for their performance in the just ended WAFU Nations Cup and urged them to beat Burkina Faso in the CHAN qualifiers.

A difficult task await coach Maxwell Konadu’s side who suffered a shocking home defeat to Burkina Faso in the first leg of the qualifiers.

The Black Stars however avenged their defeat to the the Burkinabe’s when they clashed again in the WAFU Nation’s Cup in Senegal.

Damba who has been following the team keenly has noted that inactivity on the local scene affected the players’ sharpness and fitness but with the benefit of the WAFU tournament, the players are now in the best shape to take on Burkina Faso.

“I need to start by congratulating Maxwell Konadu and his boys. They’ve been consistent and it’s the third time they’ve been to the finals. Maxwell Konadu was constrained because there is no active soccer competition going on in the country so he had to do a lot of scouting to get players together to help play competitively and as a result of that the players were rusty”.

“The more games you play, the better you become plus you become sharper. So we had missed what we call game sharpness because the more games you play, the sharper you become. We lost our first game in Kumasi and I do not think it was because of performance but it had to do with proactiveness in certain parts of the pitch which is the last third, our ability to finish affected us. This WAFU tournament gave the coach opportunity to see the players and shuffled them. So I think that the WAFU has given a wonderful opportunity”, he said.

The Black Stars are expected to fly out of Ghana today for the game which is scheduled for tomorrow.

The team has been boosted by the settlement of bonus and per diems arrears owed them by the government.
