The driver of the Black Stars technical team, Solomon Hinson has detailed the circumstances that led to the accident, alleging that their car collided with a car branded with the colours and flag of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The technical members involved in the car crash included head coach Otto Addo, assistant coach John Paintsil, and goalkeeper's trainer Fatawu Dadua.
The trio escaped the near-fatal accident on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road while returning to Accra after watching the Champions of Champions game between Ghana Premier League winners Samartex FC and FA Cup champions, Nsoatreman FC on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
The Black Stars technical team was travelling in a Land Cruiser SUV belonging to the Ghana Football Association’s vice president, Mark Addo.
Speaking in an interview sighted by GhanaWeb, Solomon Hinson disclosed that the car branded with posters of the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker veered off its lane and collided with their vehicle.
"We were climbing the hill when we saw the NPP Tundra on top speed coming," Solomon Hinson said in the interview.
"I quickly swerved him and he hit our driving mirror before smashing the doors and the back tyre. He was facing me head-on for a straight crash, but because I swerved, we hit the road fence," he said.
The Black Stars technical team escaped from the accident unhurt but experienced some discomfort.
The technical team are expected to lead the Black Stars in their first training session on Monday, September 2, ahead of their game against Angola.
